| Beef Steak with Sauerbraten Sauce

Beef Steak with Sauerbraten Sauce - serves 2
1/2 pound boneless sirloin beef steak or boneless top round steak
1 tsp olive or vegetable oil
2 tbsp finely chopped onion
3/4 cup canned ready-to -serve low-sodium beef broth
2 tbsp red wine vinegar
1/8 tsp ground nutmeg
3 whole cloves
3 gingersnap cookies(1/2 ounce), finely crushed
Weather permitting, broil the beef steak on an outdoor grill.
Preheat broiler. On rack in broiling pan arrange beef steak and broil 5 to 6 inches from heat source until medium-rare, 4 to 5 minutes on each side, or until done to taste.
While steak is broiling prepare sauce. In 10-inch nonstick skillet heat oil; add onion and cook over medium-high heat, stirring frequently, until lightly browned, 1 to 2 minutes.
Add remaining ingredients except gingersnaps and cook until liquid is slightly reduced, 2 to 3 minutes. Remove and discard cloves. add gingersnaps and stir to combine; cook 1 minute longer.
To serve,thinly slice steak diagonally across the grain and arrange on serving platter; top with gingersnap mixture.
